Life That Christ Takes Control

Text : Philippians 3:7-14

                This afternoon I want to encourage you with the scripture from Philippians 3:7-14. “But  whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness that come from God and is by faith. I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do, Forgetting   what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” The title of the sermon is “Life That Christ Takes Control”            

When we have read the Word of God, Christ can take control of our lives whenever we do at least three things.

First: Remember that Christ is worth more than all things. Apostle Paul remembered that so his life was taken control by Christ. We know his attitude because he showed us two things.

1.He knew that all things are worthless comparing to Christ in verse 7. Those things that he mentioned in verse 5-6 were 1) He was circumcised the eighth day. This made him so proud because his family was so religious. 2) He was the Jews and was born in Israel. 3) He was from the Benjamin Tribe. His tribe was praised because King Saul who was the first King of Jews was from the Benjamin Tribe. 4) He was educated and was able to speak Hebrew. 5) He was one of the Pharisees. 6) He was active as persecuted the church. 7) He was so proud of being righteous as he mentioned in verse 6 that he was found blameless as to the righteousness which was in the Law. He mentioned in verse 7 that all of those things he gained  were loss in the sake of Christ.

2.He took Christ as the surpassing value. He wanted to gain Christ so he suffered the loss of all things.

Second: Pay closely attention to the growing as Christ in verse 9-11. We can see the growth of Apostle Paul because the more he grew, the more Christ can take control of him.

1.He said that there was no righteousness of his own derived from the Law. If we want to grow we need to have faith in Christ. We cannot build the stair to climb to heaven but only from God. The scripture in Isaiah 64:6 said that “For all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous deeds are like a filthy garment; …”   The other Bible used the word, “rags”.

2.He mentioned in verse 10 that he want to know Him. The Old Testament used “know” as the close relationship as husband and wife. He said when he knew Christ for some time not as the new believer. When you serve and follow Christ for decades and you will say the same.

3.He knew the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings. The only way to gain it is to have fellowship of His sufferings.

Third: Look in the hope in Christ. Apostle Paul did two things that we can look in the hope in Christ.

1.We must not hold on the past as the verse 12 “Not that I have already obtained or have already become perfect, but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.”

2.The verse 13-14 said that “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of  yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

If we want to succeed, we have to seriously invest. We have to press on toward the goal. We have to forget the things behind and reach forward to the goal ahead. Apostle Paul used the word “press on” for our lives to be taken control by God. The word “reach” is for the runner trying to reach the finish line to be the winner. Our prize is Christ Jesus. Do you want the prize from the world or do you want the prize from God?

รักไร้เรื่อง เสแสร้ง ระแวงหวาด

ไร้อาฆาต มาตความ ยามหึงหวง

รักไร้เรื่อง แต่งเสริม เพิ่มหลอกลวง

รักเปรียบห่วง คล้องสองใจ ให้ผูกพัน

รักปรับเปลี่ยน ความห่างไกล ให้ใกล้ชิด

พาลเป็นมิตร คิดเรื่องดี มีสร้างสรร

เปลื่ยนคนทุกข์ สุขสดชื่น ทุกคืนวัน

เปลี่ยนดื้อรั้น ดุร้าย กลายเป็นฟัง

เปลี่ยนโง่เขลา ให้เข้าใจ ใคร่ศึกษา

รักเปรียบยา รักษาใจ ให้ความหวัง

ช่วยสร้างเสริม เติมฝันดี มีพลัง

รากรักหยั่ง ฝังลึก ผนึกใจ

นี่แค่เพียง เศษเสี้ยว เกี่ยวกับ”รัก”

มากมายนัก ความหมายเกิน ประเมินได้

“รัก”คือสิ่ง สวยงาม ยามฝังใจ

โลกสดใส คล้ายแสง แห่งตะวัน”

จะรักใคร ขอให้รัก สักแค่ครึ่ง

เก็บครึ่งหนึ่ง ของหัวใจ ไม่แปรผัน

เมื่อวันใด ถูกสลัด ตัดสัมพันธ์
